These documents relate to the history of the Henderson Settlement School. Materials include an unpublished history, "The Parson of Middle Laurel Fork" by Don Haynes Eddy; a transcribed oral history tape; copies of the KENTUCKY MOUNTAIN MISSIONS (1950s-1970s), the settlement's newspaper; copies of Parson Frakes' sermons; and a published history of the school. Also included are slides (ca. 700) of local scenery, the settlement, and particularly the buildings of the old school (1939-1973).

Historical note: Henderson Settlement School, in Frakes, Kentucky, was established in 1925 by Hiram M. Frakes, a Methodist minister from Indiana. Long associated with the United Methodist Church, the school provided elementary and secondary education for Appalachian children in the Middle Laurel Fork valley region of Bell County.
